New Delhi: Rajouri Garden’s auxiliary vote is a referendum on Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s two-year rule, top Congress leader Ajay Maken said on Sunday.
After casting his vote, he said he was confident in his ability to win the assembly by poll and said the main contest was between Congress and the BJP.
“This indirect ballot is very important and Congress will win this election. The competition is mainly held between Congress and the BJP. These are directly parliamentary elections,” said the chairman of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC ).
“This is a referendum on the two years of Kejriwal’s work,” he said.
Voting began at 8 a.m. and will continue until 6 p.m. in the region, which has around 1.6 lakh voters, according to the electoral office.
The seat became vacant earlier this year after AAP’s Jarnail Singh stepped down as an MP to run in the Punjab Assembly election against SAD boss Parkash Singh Badal.
In addition to EVMs, the reliability of which has been questioned by the PAA, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) are used at the 166 polling stations in the West Delhi constituency.
