Akpabio mocks alleged bribery attempt by AKS APC congressional committee members

Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs

Jan. 22 (THEWILL) – Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio has described as false a recent media report that he tried to bribe members of the Akwa State APC Congressional Committee Ibom, saying “this is laughable and a figment of the imagination of the purveyors of such lies and lies.

The Minister’s reaction was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Officer, Mr. Jackson Udom, and made available to THEWILL correspondent in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to the press release: “To the attention of Hon. Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been lured yet again by another maliciously fabricated and written news item, by a highly compromised online media platform; CitizensWatch, alleging that the Honorable Minister was seen desperately trying to bribe Akwa Ibom State, All Progressives Congress (APC) Congressional committee members.

“It’s laughable and a fabricated lie from the pit of hell that shouldn’t be taken seriously by any human being.

“From the headlines of the story, one could easily sense the yellow journalism at play, as the entire content of the story is laced with lies and lies from the first paragraph to the last.

“Ordinarily, the honorable minister, who is currently committed to fulfilling the mandate of President Muhammadu Buhari in the Niger Delta region, would not have honored the baseless publication with a response, but because it is an election year, where faceless politicians would attempt to smear integrity and attempt to slander the good names of those they perceive as their political rivals, and for the innocent public to know the truth from concocted lies, where this answer.

“For the information of the suppliers and funders of this mischief and falsehood, the last time the Honorable Minister made a private visit to Lagos was a fortnight ago. We challenge this faceless and highly compromised publisher and his master payers to make available to members of the public, photos and video clips of where the Honorable Minister stayed and the people he met while making the alleged decision to compromise CPA Congressional committee members.

“The Honorable Minister, according to documents which are also in the public domain, does not belong to any faction of the party in the State. To demonstrate his non-commitment to any faction, he personally attended the parallel congresses organized by the two factions, where he pleaded and preached peace and unity among party members, because according to him, “no group can do it alone”.

“At the said congresses, he reiterated his attachment to the rapid resolution of the impasse, as soon as possible, and that he is totally committed to.

“As a member of the party, the honorable minister has not, in any form, launched any legal challenge to the results of the split state congress of the party. He is still working with like minds within the party to bring unity and unity ahead of the party’s National Convention next month.

“It is therefore absurd and insulting to well-meaning members of the public and especially party members to anyone of his mind to accuse the Hon. minister for trying to bribe party members for something he is not involved in.

“Finally, members of the public and party members are, by this statement, urged to ignore and view this news as a figment of the imagination of the fake news sponsors, providers and funders.
